If someone "crosses your mind" or if you casually think, "I wonder how they are getting along?"  Call them.  Write them. E-mail them.  Believe me when I tell you that they need to hear from you.  You will also be surprised when they say, "You know, I was just thinking about you too."

BIBLE TRIVIA

Do numbers matter in biblical history?  Consider the following Bible trivia...

  • The iron point on Goliath's spear alone weighed about 15 pounds. (1 Samuel 17:7)
  • It took 52 days to rebuild Jerusalem's wall.  (Nehemiah 6:15)
  • After the resurrection Jesus was on earth for 40 days.  (Acts 1:3)
  • Moses was 40 years old when he first visited the Israelites in Egypt.  (Acts 7:23)
  • It took Solomon 13 years to build his palace.  It only took him seven years to build the temple.  (1 Kings 6:38-7:1)
  • Noah lived to be 950 years of age.  (Genesis 9:29)
  • Noah was 600 years old when God sent the flood.  (Genesis 7:6)
  • Saul, David, Solomon, and Joash all reigned as kings for 40 years.
  • When Jewish exiles left Perisa to build the temple in Jerusalem, they took 30 gold dishes, 1,000 silver dishes, and 410 silver bowls.  (Ezra 1:9-10)
  • King Josiah provided from his own livestock 30,000 sheep and goats and 3,000 cows just for one Passover celebration.  (2 Chronicles 35:7)
  • Solomon wrote 3,000proverbs and 1,005 songs.  (1 Kings 4:32)
  • There are 11 earthquakes recorded in the New Testament.
  • Jesus chose 70 people to travel by twos ahead of him and to heal people.  (Luke 10:1-9)
  • Elijah was to first person to raise someone from the dead.  (1 Kings 17:17-24)
  • During the flood, water covered the mountains by more than 20 feet.  (Genesis 7:20)
  • There are only two verses in the New Testament that mention music.  (Luke 15:25; Ephesians 5:19)

In your church begin to ask questions about the significance numbers has in the  Bible story.

BIBLE STUDY HINTS

If you are having difficulty "jump-starting" your daily personal study of the Bible remember the following hints...

  • Read the Great Stories of the Bible.  These stories will help to keep your interest and your focus and if you read what the text says you'll find ways that the "God of Bible", who worked through and for people, can work through and for you also.

  • Meet the people in the Bible.  Get acquainted with whom the Word was written to and about.  Believe it or not, you'll find that the Word of God was written for and about you also.

  • Remember that Jesus is the central focus of the Bible.  The Old Testament tells of His coming and the New Testament recounts the effects that occurred because of His coming.  It's all about Jesus!

  • Get a translation that works for you.  Find a translation of the Bible that will allow you to comfortably read and understand what God is saying to you.

Our hope is that you will learn about God, trust God and receive His greatest gift...Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour.
